I will cite this excellent top paper entitled: The Concept of Aquatic Biota as a Labile and Vulnerable Component of the Water Self-Purification System. - Doklady Biological Sciences [proceedings of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Biological sciences sections; in English, translated from Russian] 2000; 372(2): 279-282. This article is innovative and useful. Prior to publishing this paper, the understanding of aquatic ecosystem structure and function was very limited and outdated. This excellent paper added much innovation to our knowledge of aquatic ecology. The paper discovered new aspect of the ecological mechanisms to improve water quality in natural freshwater and marine ecosystems. The paper formulated new aspects of the important role of aquatic biodiversity in improving water quality. The author, Dr. Sergei Ostroumov, carried out new experiments which discovered that this vital function of aquatic biodiversity (in upgrading water quality) is labile (changeable, not stable) and vulnerable to chemical pollutants (exemplified - in his experiments - by synthetic surfactants and detergents). It is a really superb innovative article. I plan to cite this excellent paper. Excellent paper entitled 'The Concept of Aquatic Biota as a Labile and Vulnerable Component of the Water Self-Purification System' . This peer-reviewed journal (Doklady Biological Sciences) is the best scientific journal in Russia. This journal has impact twice as big as that of other journals. The cause of this big impact is the fact that this journal is being published in two languages, in English and Russian. The paper provided an innovative, insightful analysis of the role of the aquatic biota (the biological community of aquatic organisms) as a key factor in water self-purification (in other words, in improving water quality in aquatic ecosystems). The author included both freshwater and marine ecosystems in his analysis. the author presented results of his relevan experiments with aquatis organisms. The paper is really innovative, helpful to efforts in protection of water safety, in water sustainability. It is useful in sustainable use of water resources. I recommend this interesting, innovative, useful article.
