The World of the Scythians is a great place to start a further examination of the fearsome warriors of the steppes that were the subject of Herodotus's fourth volume. Their culture, burial practices, societal structure, battle tactics and artifacts are all examined in turn with a compelling and informative voice.

The most useful portion of the book is the bibliography, as it's a readable synthesis of centuries of sparse writings, most of which are not in English. (The book itself is a translation from German.)
