Delightful book and welcome addition to my library   (2009-11-18)

Strega Nona grows all her own vegetables and keeps a very neat and tidy garden. Each spring she checks her journal to see where she planted her crop so she can rotate it and keep her soil healthy. One year, Big Anthony decides that he will also grow a garden but he is not as careful as our heroine. His veggies take over and he is forced to come with a creative solution to get rid of them. Each night he puts more and more on Strega Nona?s doorstep. They begin to take over her kitchen but when she learns that the village did not have a good harvest she comes up with a solution. Strega Nona gives a harvest feast to share the wealth of the year. DePaola?s characters have delighted readers for years and this book will be a welcome addition. Teachers can use this in several ways to teach about seeds and plants and also harvesting and sharing.
