The author has left a fantastic legacy and a somewhat priceless account of life as a Hooghly pilot at the turn of the century around 1900. Any mariners will immediately identify with many of the incidents or events described and the humour in the narrative brings it alive. The many anecdotes amuse and entertain the reader. A valuable piece of maritime social history. Highly recommended.
