The authors describe how hashtags including #MeToo and #SurvivorPrivilege challenged the conventional understanding of gendered violence. They examine the voices and stories of black feminism enabled by #FastTailedGirls and #SayHerName and explore the use of #GirlsLikeUs, a network of transgender women. The authors also investigate the digital signatures of the “new civil rights movement”, that set the stage for #BlackLivesMatter.
