Abstract:

A high school senior's therapist describes his history of substance abuse, his family situation, and how he has responded to therapy. The client is facing a possible prison term. The client and his parents join Bob Bertolino for a therapy session. Rather than seeking to make a clinical diagnosis, Bertolino focuses on the client's positive efforts to attend therapy, stop using drugs and finish school, then on the client's hopes for his future; how his behavior and decisions could lead to the life he wants; his interests and what steps he can take to move forward. Bertolino then discusses the care strategy with the ongoing therapist.
